Pikeynet reviews~ Schloss Bensberg
Area: Bensberg, Germany
Price guide: £300/night
Comment
I don't think it's
possible to find any fault with Schloss Bensberg other than it's too good. Too
perfect in some way makes it less friendly, but I don't think that's what
they're trying to achieve. Their target would appear to be the corporate guests,
and lots of them.
The reception and checking in area immediately gives you a feeling of how grand
and classy the hotel is. The corridors, windows and grand celings all give the
impression that this is one of few hotels that can truly be called 'Grand'. The
room was lovely with a comfortable lounge area, large bedroom and large
bathroom. The gym was good, pool very nice and a great selection of steam rooms,
spas, multijet showers, saunas, etc.
The hotel has 2 restaurants; a triple Michelin starred restaurant (which you
need to book about 3 months in advance for) and a 'casual' restaurant.
Unfortunately the smaller restaurant was full, which was unexpected. However
they were happy to book us into the restaurant in their sister hotel 10 minutes
away and shuttle us there and back in a luxury car. Although nice, this was
disappointing as we wanted to eat in the hotel and we were surprised a hotel of
this size was unable to accommodate us.
Would we go back? Not sure - it was very "fine" but also rather more Grand than
we were looking for as a romantic stay. If you do stay - make sure you reserve
dinner once you have made the reservation (ie. make the reservation on the
internet, then phone them!). If you have a bunch of corporate guests - you
couldn't find a better place!
