Week 20
24th June
Most of the inside has now been cleared.
The roof structure is up

The carpenter starts to put the new roof on

The skylight in the dining area is proportionally quite large. With the reduced size of the dining room (due to the dog leg) and hence roof surface area we went back to the structural engineer to ensure there was enough strength.

26th June
Roof takes shape

Week 22

8th July
2nd area of base concrete laid

The builder has highlighted this as being of concern. These steels are sitting on a relatively small padstone, with a new doorway to the right and to the left the old doorway that the architect has advised has just a bit of board to fill. There doesn't seem to be all that much strength in there and the builder is checking with the building control officer and suggesting he brick the old doorway up.  Compare the support of this steel to another one....

Look at the difference in size of this padstone and that it has a vertical column..

Either one is too much or the other is not enough!

I purchased two 600 x 3000 x 40 for the main surfaces and the long 'shelf' in the utility area (Mmm, perhaps a little over the top for a utility room!)  and a 900 x 3000 x 40 for the island.

.. and did rather a good job :)
